Fourth of July Poem

Happy Fourth of July, everybody! To celebrate our independence and to honor those who have served, I have written a poem that I would like to share:

“Gifts From the Fallen” By Aleese Hughes

Standing firm as the flag unfurls

Standing firm as the wind whirls

Hands on heart as the tears fall

Hands on heart as the mothers bawl

Heads bowed as the graves are filled

Heads bowed for the ones who were killed

Smiling for what we were graciously given

Smiling for the gifts from the fallen

Thank you for our freedom

Thank you for our country

Thank you… for you

I hope all of you have a wonderful Independence Day! And again, thank you to all those who have served our country so bravely and selflessly!!
